My Journey
Author: Gerdwine Bourdeau
Over the past four years, my hair journey became deeply personal and at times, emotional. I was experiencing significant breakage and shedding, and like many people, I believed the solution would be quick. I purchased countless products, hoping something would work overnight. While some helped temporarily, none delivered lasting results.
That frustration sparked something deeper: a desire to create a product that truly supported the goals I was trying to achieve a healthy scalp, length retention, and fuller hair. That curiosity turned into formulation, and eventually, into the oil I use today.
The oil supported nearly every goal. My scalp felt nourished, my hair began to grow, and fullness improved. Yet one issue remained, retention. My hair would reach a certain length and then break. I was following my routine faithfully and staying more consistent than ever, so I had to pause and ask myself:
What am I missing?
The Issue
This was my first real lesson in Assess.
During that time, I was also navigating major life changes. This caused high stress, poor sleep, and inconsistent nutrition.I also had to take a hard look at my styling habits. I realized that certain hairstyles: tight ponytails, slicked-back buns, heavy extensions, tight braids, and styles that constantly pulled at my edges were contributing to tension and breakage along my hairline. Even styles that looked “neat” were silently working against my retention goals.
Eventually, I began experiencing persistent lower abdominal pain and knew it was time to look deeper. After connecting with my doctor and running tests, everything came back normal except my iron levels. Further assessment revealed fibroids, which explained both the pain and the underlying deficiency. Finding the root cause brought relief and clarity. It reminded me that hair health doesn’t exist in isolation.
Resolution
With that knowledge, I was able to assess what my body truly needed, refine my routine, and recommit to consistency not just with products, but with nutrition, rest, stress management, and gentler styling choices. I began prioritizing low-tension styles, giving my edges time to recover, and allowing my hair to thrive without constant pulling or stress.
The oil didn’t magically fix everything on its own, but it played a critical role. It supported my scalp, protected my strands, and became a steady part of my routine while I addressed what was happening internally and externally.
That’s the heart of the ARC method:
- Assess what’s really going on inside your body, your habits, and your hair
- Build a supportive routine that nourishes your scalp, strands, and edges
- Stay committed through consistency, even when results take time
This oil was created to support that process not as a quick fix, but as a reliable partner in a holistic journey toward healthier hair. Because real growth happens when care, awareness, and consistency come together.
